Today the value of a Catholic education is greater than ever before because it helps our young people learn how to bring the Gospel of Christ to a world in need.
At St. John the Baptist, we are committed to providing an affordable Catholic education to all families in our community. The cost to educate a student at St. John the Baptist is $8,600/per child. Despite ongoing challenges and the rising inflation, tuition rates are less than 50 percent of the actual cost to educate a student and remain lower than area Catholic schools.

Good Shepherd Scholarship
The Lincol
n Diocese introduced the Good Shepherd Scholarship across Catholic schools. The scholarship program will help increase the financial sustainability of the school and helps assist families with tuition costs, based on household size and income.

Please note that applications must be received by March 31, 2024 to be eligible for funding in the 2024-25 school year. Families who wish to apply for funding, will also need to provide 2021 or 2022 tax information.

St. John the Baptist Tuition Assistance Fund
The St. John the Baptist Tuition Assistance Fund is a fund designed to help provide needed financial support for families who seek a faith-centered education for their children and do not qualify for the Diocesan Good Shepherd Scholarship.

Only active parishioners can apply for financial support and applicants must first apply for the Good Shepherd Scholarship. Supporting financial documents are required with the application.

NEW THIS YEAR – Opportunity Scholarships of Nebraska
St. John the Baptist School is an official partner school with Opportunity Scholarships of Nebraska. Students who qualify may receive opportunity scholarships to help them attend StJB, and Nebraska residents can support our students through the Opportunity Scholarships Act tax credit program. The new Opportunity Scholarships have a separate application, with a priority deadline of April 30th.
In 2023, the Nebraska State Legislature passed The Opportunity Scholarships Act (LB753), a scholarship tax credit program. Taxpayers can contribute to Opportunity Scholarships of Nebraska, a state-approved scholarship granting organization, which then will use those dollars to provide scholarships to eligible students. The law provides dollar-for-dollar state tax credits for contributions to approved non-profit scholarship granting organizations (SGOs). These SGOs, such as Opportunity Scholarships of Nebraska (OSN), use those funds to award scholarships to qualified students, allowing them to enroll in private schools that align with their educational needs and goals.
This transformative program enables students from lower-income families, students with special needs, students who experience bullying, students from military families, students in foster care, and students who are denied option enrollment by public schools to access scholarships to attend the private school of their choice. The Opportunity Scholarships Act gives priority to children from the lowest-income families first, along with the qualifiers above, giving final priority to families making less than 300% of the federal Free and Reduced Lunch rate.
Student Eligibility
In order to be eligible to apply for an Opportunity Scholarship to a qualified school, a family must have a student entering Kindergarten, 9th grade, or transferring into any grade from a public school
In order to qualify, the eligible student must meet one of the following criteria in this tiered priority system:
- Have received an Opportunity Scholarship during the previous school year or is the sibling of a student who has received an Opportunity Scholarship (sibling must reside in the same household).
- Eligible students in families whose income is 100% or below the Federal Poverty level; or have been assigned an Individualized Education Plan*; or have one or both parents actively serving in a branch of the armed forces or the National Guard or who has lost their life in the line of duty*; or have experienced bullying*; or are in the foster care system*; or have been denied option enrollment to a public school district*.
- Eligible students in families whose income is above 100% and at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level (Reduced Lunch Qualifier).
- Eligible students in families whose income is above 185% and at or below 213% of the Federal Poverty Level (CHIP qualifier).
- Eligible students in families whose income is above 213% of the Federal Poverty Level and at or below 300% of the Reduced Lunch income guideline.
* Requires extra documentation.

Scholarship Awards
Qualified students will receive scholarships based on financial need. Scholarships cannot exceed the tuition at the eligible nonpublic school chosen by the family, and the average scholarship distributed cannot exceed 75% of the state’s cost to educate a public school student.
Scholarships may be used on the following:
- Tuition: any amount charged by a qualified school for enrollment in its instructional program.
- Fees: charges directly related to the education of an eligible student.
