Jr. Legion of Mary
The Junior Legion of Mary is a junior branch of the Legion of Mary. Frank Duff founded this organization in 1921 in order to promote personal sanctification and evangelization of the holy Catholic faith. Our StJB group is open to students grades 1-8, though due to the more formal nature of the meetings, a certain level of maturity is helpful. Therefore, it is suggested for grades 3-8. The cost is free.
Meetings:
Meetings are weekly throughout the school year on Wednesdays from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Saint Joseph Room (just off the church commons.) Once volleyball season is over, meetings will be on Thursdays. The group does not meet when St. John’s School is not in session, either for a planned day off or snow day. Although we encourage attendance at every meeting, we realize some children would like to participate in sports, etc., and the practices may conflict with our meeting times. Students can join our group and attend when they can.
In our meetings, we pray the rosary, the Tessera prayers, and give reports on our assignments. Assignments are given on a weekly basis. Students lead school-wide prayer chains, serve as a religious buddy for Kindergarteners, make cards for elderly parishioners and teachers, visited nursing homes, and visited the Cloisters on the Platte.
