Beekeeper Debra Swirmicky, from Glenwood, IA, made a special visit to St. Johns. She has been a beekeeper for 11 yrs and cares for 20 colonies of bees. She presented a lesson to 7th and 8th grade science, discussing how bees are social insects and how each bee has a specific role in the colony. She also shared a video clip that showed how bees communicate in the hive to relay where a food source is located. Plus, the kids got to enjoy the taste of a honeycomb and honey!
