Jayger Haag, 6th grade student at St. John the Baptist Catholic School, was recognized for being a winner of the My Hero Essay Contest at the “Heroes In the Heartland” Awards Luncheon held on March 8th. The annual essay contest is sponsored by the American Red Cross.
The awards program honored local heartland heroes for their extraordinary efforts to better the lives of others. Malorie Maddox of WOWT was the emcee for the presentation of awards.

A total of seven students were selected as winners in the essay contest. Mia Fox, StJB 7th grader, was also one of the winners in the contest.
Both StJB students were recognized by the American Red Cross at an all-school assembly last month. A total of 500 essay entries were submitted in the contest by local 6th – 8th grade students.
